PUDUCHERRY/CHENNAI: VCK organising secretary S Pavanan lodged a complaint with the Mudaliarpet police on Monday, that `1.20 lakh had been withdrawn from his bank account illegally. The person had withdrawn `20,000, six times from different machines, reportedly using a fake ATM card. The theft came to his notice only after the receipt of SMS in the sixth instance. The VCK leader then asked the bank authorities to block the card. Mudaliarpet police have registered a complaint and are investigating.Lorry driver killed in drunken brawlA lorry driver from Haryana was killed following a drunken brawl on Sunday. The incident happened when Partab (26) was pushed from the top of a container lorry, by another driver Parveen. Both drivers were waiting for their turn to unload their goods at an AC making unit in Thurubhuvanai. Police are investigating.Ex-MLA, aide Booked Under Goondas ActFormer DMK MLA of Villivakkam constituency B Ranganathan, and his aide, who were arrested on August 2 on land grabbing charges, were booked under the Goondas Act on Tuesday. They were arrested after the Nolambur Annamalai Avenue Plot Owners’ Association lodged a complaint on August 1, alleging that the duo had grabbed land worth `150 crore through forged documents. On the Nolambur inspector’s recommendation, the commissioner of police directed that the former MLA and his aide to be booked under the Goondas Act, a press release said.
