New Delhi: Chief Justice of India SH Kapadia has granted permission to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to go ahead with probe against a sitting High Court judge.
Kapadia has allowed the investigating agency to conduct investigation against Justice Nirmal Yadav of Uttarakhand High Court. Nirmal is the main accused in the cash-at-door scam where Rs 15 lakh were delivered by the Haryana Additional Advocate General Sandeep Bansal to Justice Nirmaljeet's house on August 2009.
Nirmaljeet called the police which led to Bansal's arrest. He later resigned from his post and disclosed that the money was meant to be delivered to Justice Nirmal and not Justice Nirmaljeet.
For the first time the CJI set up a committee to investigation the role of a sitting High Court judge in a corruption case. Nirmal has so far maintained that it was a part of a vilification campaign against her.
Nirmal Yadav was transferred out to the Uttarakhand High Court while Nirmaljeet was cleared of all charges. The CBI later took over the investigation.
