CBI to grill Rizwan's father in-law over mystery death
The CBI investigating the Rizwanur case has booked his father-in-law, Ashok Todi.

New Delhi: The CBI has begun investigation in the Rizwanur Rehman murder case following an order of the Kolkata High Court, asking the agency to take up the probe.

Rizwanur had been found dead on railway tracks at Patipukur in Dum Dum on September 21. He died under mysterious circumstances following his marriage to the daughter of an industrialist.

A seven-member CBI team on Saturday visited Patipukur area, where the body of the computer graphics designer had been found last month. The team led by Joint Director, Special Crime Cell, Arun Kumar, inspected the site for collecting evidence.

Earlier, the team held a meeting at the CBI office located inside the central government office complex at Salt Lake. According to CBI sources, the team is likely to question Rizwanur's father-in-law, industrialist Ashok Todi, on Saturday.

The Central investigating agency has already registered a murder case against Ashok Todi.

The team booked Todi under Section 302 (murder) and other crimes, but it’s not clear whether it had charged Kolkata police officials too.

Rizwanur's brother Rukbanur Rahman and Human Rights activist Sujata Bhadra welcomed the CBI’s probe. "It is indeed a positive step on behalf of CBI. The investigation process will now be transparent one,” Rukbanur said.

“We are satisfied with the FIR, as right from the beginning we have been saying that this is a murder case. The local administration was taking the suicide angle but that is not correct,” he said

“Todi was hostile to Rizwanur. He put tremendous pressure on the couple and when that failed they tried to intimidate us. We'll definitely cooperate with CBI.” Rizwanur’s family alleges that some senior Kolkata police officers helped Todi and harassed Rizwanur to leave his wife Priyanka.
