BANGALORE: Four schools in the city came together to sign the Inter Student Council League Charter on Monday evening at the Indus International School Bangalore. The charter will promote the welfare of the schools through sharing and gaining knowledge from each other. The four founding members are Indus International School Bangalore, Inventure Academy, Mallya Aditi International School and Vidya Niketan School.Speaking on the occasion Sathish Jayarajan, Principal, Mallya Aditi International School said, “This charter focuses on the co-operation and collaboration among the students and the schools. It is entirely a student-led initiative. We expect ideas and initiatives to come from students.” The discussion of the league came about on February 14, 2011 when specific Student Council representatives met to discuss how they could collaborate in the fields of sports, literary events, tournaments and community outreach programmes. And thus the idea of the league took birth.“Students in India are disengaged from the civil society. One needs to serve first, then lead,” advised General Arjun Ray, CEO, Indus Trust, at the inaugural function.“This is a unique initiative taken up by the student councils of the schools. We will be able to interact with other students through various programs that will be organised.Currently the main focus of the student league is community outreach and environmental betterment,” said Akriti Bhargava, school captain of Inventure Academy.Advik Iyer Guha, member of the student council of Mallaya Aditi said, “This year, we have tied up with Child Rights and You (CRY).We want to take up the cause of child rights, and that’s why we are working with CRY.We are planning a day-long event in August, that will have different activities all aimed at creating awareness about child rights. Students between the ages 10-18 will be involved in this initiative.A benefit concert will also be organised on the same day.” “This charter will provide students with leadership skills, as leaders are supportive, inspirational and motivating,” said Mallika Sen, Principal, Inventure Academy, as she laid emphasis on the qualities that a student could imbibe through this. The league will comprise different committees. There will be one main committee, that comprises school captains of the Founding Members. This committee will preside over the actions taken by this forum. The charter is open to membership from other schools, but they need to follow a certain procedure to become a member of the league.
