Chided by Family, MKU Professor Hangs Self

MADURAI: A professor at the Madurai Kamaraj University College committed suicide by hanging himself with an electrical wire at his residence, here on Tuesday. According to the police, V Ramanujam (48), an associate professor in the Hotel Management Department of the Madurai Kamaraj University College, had spent all his earnings and resources on building a house. Ramanujam was often chided by his family for choosing a site in a remote area, sources said, while adding that Ramanujam had secured a bank loan for completing the construction work, but could not succeed in doing so. These circumstances could have forced him to take the extreme step, police said.  Ramanujam, was living in Valar Nagar, Madurai, and is  survived by wife Shobitha, also a professor, and a daughter. The Othakadai police have registered a case. Further investigation is on.
