MALKANGIRI: With barely five days to go for the first phase panchayat polls, the battle of the ballot has reached a crescendo. The BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik attacked the Congress during his campaigns in the district on Monday.During his less than an hour tour to the district, Naveen addressed people at Maithili and MV-79 and spoke about various welfare schemes launched by his Government for the benefit of the poor. Naveen arrived at Maithili around 1.20 pm and addressed a gathering along with ZP candidates. Making a stinging attack on the Congress leaders and Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre, he lashed out at the Opposition, particularly Congress, for doing nothing for the State’s progress and tried to project the BJD as the messiah of the poor.As in other places, Naveen took pot shots at the Congress alleging it to be involved in misappropriation of public money and corruption. The BJD, on the other hand, is a catalyst for rural development, uplift of women and downtrodden, he said adding it was his father’s dream that he is fulfilling. COTFED Chairman Dambru Sisha, Malkangiri NAC Chairman Dhanurjaya Madkami, BJD Maithili Zone-I candidate Suryamani Nayak, Udanath Madri (Zone-II), Khairput ZP candidate Padmini Muduli, Malkangiri ZP Zone-II candidate Prashantilata Bisoi were present at the meeting. From Maithilli he went to MV-79 in an helicopter. Malkangiri MLA Mukund Sodi and district BJD chief Manas Madkami and ZP candidate Paritosh Sarkar were present, among others.
