CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday inaugurated buildings for 20 police stations across the State, 1,016 houses for police personnel and five new police stations in the city, all set up at an expenditure of `89.36 crore. The CM declared the police stations and other buildings “open” through video-conferencing facility at the Secretariat. The police stations which got their own buildings on Friday include: Periyamedu, Tambaram, Thazhambur, RK Pettai, Melpatti, Puduchathiram, Thirukovilur, Manalurpettai, Pazhugal, Pechiparai, Ganghikuppam, Thirukkuvalai, Andimadam, Saminathapuram, Sathur, Dhanushkoti and Udumalaipettai and two All-Women Police Stations at Thiruvallur and Kottaikuppam. She also inaugurated buildings for training Tamil Nadu Special Force at Veerapuram and in many other places. These buildings have eco-friendly features like rain water harvesting. The families of the policemen thanked the CM for constructing the new houses. The five new police stations inaugurated by the CM include — three law and order police stations at Taramani, Kanathur and Koyambedu bus terminus and two traffic police stations at Valasaravakkam and Semmancherry. So far, the people of Taramani and Kanathur had to go to Velacherry to set their grievances right. This station would also increase protection of the IT firms on Rajiv Gandhi Road. The Neelankarai police station has been divided into two and a new station with Kanathur as its headquarters has been created. This will enhance protection for residential areas along ECR. The residents of these areas also thanked the CM.
