Several commercial establishments including banks, ATMs, nursing homes, coaching centres, cyber cafes and private schools running in residential sectors are going to face the heat as Ghaziabad Development Authority has launched a drive against them.
Allahabad High Court in September last year had directed GDA to seal all buildings in residential areas that have been leased out to banks, private schools, nursing homes or put to any other commercial use.
"After court's order, GDA had conducted a survey to identify such commercial activities in residential areas. In our survey, we found that there are around eight thousand houses, which have been leased out to banks, ATM and other commercial use," a senior officer of GDA said.
The officer also said that GDA has started giving notices to banks, nursing homes and commercial activities and asked them to reply in the next 15 days. There are 39 branches of different banks, which are being operated in residential house. These branches of banks might be sealed during the action of GDA.
In its order of September 19, 2013, a Division Bench of Allahabad High court had said: "We direct the GDA to seal all buildings/shops running commercial activities such as banks, private schools, nursing homes etc, in areas earmarked for residential use."
