The proposed brainstorming session with Congress leaders will be held at Lalita Kala Thoranam in the Public Gardens here on September 23.
PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana finalised the date and venue of the meeting after holding discussions with some of the senior leaders in the party at Gandhi Bhavan here on Thursday.
“As per the schedule, the meeting will start at 10 am and last till 5 pm on that day. All party leaders from the state to the mandal level will be invited to the conclave,” said PCC spokesman N Tulasi Reddy.
According to party sources, the PCC leadership estimates that as many as 4,000 leaders will participate in the meeting which aims at finding ways to strengthen the party and prepare the party cadre for the ensuing local body elections.
Apart from AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad, several other top leaders of the AICC are likely to take part in the meeting.
The PCC chief appointed coordinators for each district and asked them to prepare comprehensive report from them on the party position in their respective districts and the impact of the fledgling YSR Congress on the ruling party.
The coordinators have also been asked to give details of party leaders who have jumped on the Jagan bandwagon. The coordinators have been asked to attend a preparatory meeting at Gandhi Bhavan with their reports on September 17.
Meanwhile, the decision to hold a brainstorming session without taking a final decision on Telangana seems to have not gone down well with Telangana leaders in the Congress.
MLCs KR Amos and K Yadav Reddy said holding a brainstorming session without resolving the state’s bifurcation issue would in no way help the party to regain its glory in any region.
Talking to reporters on the Assembly premises on Thursday, Amos and Yadav Reddy said that the brainstorming would be of no use to the party in the Telangana region.
Yadav Reddy said party leaders and cadre would not be able to work in Telangana in the absence of a favourable decision on the statehood issue.
The duo made it clear that they would raise the Telangana issue at the proposed brainstorming session.
