Consultation on Child Protection Unit begins

KOCHI: The Human Rights Law Network (HRLN), an organisation of lawyers working for social causes, will hold a consultation on Saturday for setting up a child protection unit in the city. The consultation, which will be inaugurated by Dominic Presentation MLA, will be introduced by Sandhya Raju of HRLN. State committee member of  Nirbhaya Project, Lida Jacob, will deliver a special address.The unit, which will be set up under the Child Protection Programme, aims at helping and rehabilitating  children facing abuse. The unit will provide legal and emotional support for the victims and their parents. The consultation unit will also arrange medical aid and rehabilitation programmes to overcome the trauma.The organisation aims to expand its services to all 14 districts of the state through the participation of law enforcement agencies, lawyers involved in civil and criminal proceedings, and individuals representing child protection services. The consultation unit also plans to set up a network that links NGOs working with children.
