Cooperative elections likely in August

HYDERABAD: Elections to cooperative societies are likely to be conducted in August.Minister for cooperation Kasu Venkata Krishna Reddy told reporters here on Wednesday that as per the previous schedule the elections should be conducted in June but due to the election code of conduct in force, the cooperative elections were postponed.The minister said the cabinet sub-committee would submit its report soon on revival package for cooperative societies.Talking about the Congress’ winning chances in the Pattipadu and Macherla Assembly constituencies in Guntur district, the minister, who hails from the district, said “We will give a keen fight’’.Minister for agriculture Kanna Lakshminarayana, however, said the Congress would win all the 18 Assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat for which byelections will be held on June 12.Minister for finance Anam Ramanarayana Reddy said many problems being faced by people in the poll-going constituencies and needing redress were brought to the notice of the Election Commission.
