MYSORE: In a stringent action, Children Welfare Committee (CWC) imposed a fine of Rs 63,000 on Hunsur CPI MN Shashidhar on Monday for employing a child labour in his house.The members of Child Welfare Committee raided the residence of Shashidhar in Vijayanagar in Mysore on Saturday and rescued 13-year-old Tanuja who was made to work as a bonded labourer for the last two years.CWC headed by Venkatesh NT imposed the fine Rs 63,000 on Shashidhar as he admitted to engaging child labour in his house.The CWC Committee took into account the Minimum Wages Act and calculated the fine on the basis of the duration the girl worked.Following the order, Shashidhar paid Rs 50,000 on the spot and will pay the remaining Rs 13,000 during the next hearing to be held on Friday.To determine the age of the girl, the Labour Department was asked to take her for medical examination.“After this we will book a case against Circle Inspector Shashidhar.We are looking at various Acts like Child Labour Prohibition and and Rehabilitation Act, Civil Service Rules, as he is a government servant,” sources in the CWC told Express.
