BHUBANESWAR: Even as the State Council of Technical Education and Vocational Training (SCTEVT) started an internal inquiry into the question paper leak, the Commissionerate of Police busted a racket in the City on Thursday and arrested seven persons. Of the seven, one is a lecturer with an ITI. Another accused owned a Photostat copy outlet, while the rest sold the leaked question papers. Capital Police, which busted the racket, produced them before a local court later in the day. An eighth accused, Bidyadhar Behera, is being interrogated by police which wants to get to the roots of the racket. The seven have been identified as Sridhar Parida, Manoj Chaudhury, Siba Prasad Guru, Soumya Ranjan Jena, Rakesh Mallick, Maniraj Lenka and Amulya Mohapatra. Soumya Ranjan, a lecturer with Kalinga ITI, is the mastermind, while Maniraj owns the photocopy shop in Mancheswar area. Police said, the lecturer was instrumental in sourcing the question papers and he supplied them to Maniraj who made photo copies and distributed them among the rest five. Each set of leaked question paper reportedly sold for ` 200. However, it is yet to be ascertained as to how Soumya laid his hands on the question paper sets. According to the SCTEVT, the question papers are handed over to the Principals of the ITIs or their representatives with a bunch of instructions. The Council had allotted specific dates to the districts for collection of the question papers. The ITIs were asked to bring along lock and key with metal trunks to safeguard against leakage. Earlier in the day, the SCTEVT had lodged a complaint with Capital Police Station in this connection. The Council which is investigating the incident will submit its report to the Industries Department and DGET.
