The Delhi Police has been asked to register an FIR by a court on the complaint of a single mother charging a man with cheating her of money by posing as an airlines pilot on a matrimonial website. Metropolitan Magistrate Ruchika Singla directed the Station House Office, Dwarka-South to register an FIR after noting that the police had failed to inform the court about action taken on the woman's complaint.
"In the opinion of the court, several cognisable offences are made out and field investigation is required. Accordingly, the SHO, PS Dwarka South is directed to register the FIR under appropriate provisions of law," the magistrate said. The court order came on an application moved by the woman through her advocate Amit Sahni seeking directions for registration of FIR against Yuvraj Singhania who allegedly cheated her of Rs 60,000 on the false pretext of marriage.
The complainant, a single mother of five-year-old boy, told the court that being a divorcee she had registered herself at a matrimonial website in March. Sahni said his client received a phone call from the accused who introduced himself as Yuvraj alias Gaurav Singhania, working as a pilot in British Airways and a divorcee himself.
Both started talking on telephone and met several times after which the accused convinced her that he would keep her son as his own child, the lawyer said. After trapping her emotionally, the accused started taking money from her. The complainant claimed that she did not know that "the accused targets innocent women through websites, particularly women having kids and is a habitual cheat."
She said while seeking police action, she came to know that a similar FIR had been lodged by a lady doctor whom the accused had married for money and then deserted her. The woman also apprised the court of "the humiliating attitude of the policemen when she approached them with her grievance."
The police personnel were more interested in making fun of her rather than acting on her complaint, she alleged.
