Lucknow: Tension prevailed in Muzaffarnagar town in Western Uttar Pradesh on Sunday following the murder of a youth after a dispute over crackers during Diwali.
Senior Superintendent of Police(SSP) Muzaffarnagar Amrendra Sengar told UNI on telephone that the clash occured when some youths of a particular community were insisting on setting off crackers after mid-night under Kotwali police station area even after objection by the people of another community.
Pankaj Kumar was killed when some unidentified miscreants opened fire from a country made pistol.
Sengar said that the situation is tense but under control. A FIR has been registered against five people but till now only one person has been arrested.
Additional police forces have been deployed in the area. Security personnel, including personnel of the Rapid Action Force (RAF), are undertaking a flag march in the sensitive areas.
