Devotees flock to Sringeri

SRINGERI: Mohini Alankara of Goddess Sharadamba was the main attraction of the Dasara events held in Sringeri on Tuesday.Sharadamba was decorated with ornaments offered by various kings across the country.The gold pendant that depicts the mythical bird Gandaberunda, the insignia of the Mysore Wadiyars; the Makarakantihara made out of diamonds and emeralds presented to the Goddess by Tipu Sultan; the Kantisara, a seven string necklace of pearls and diamonds; were used in Mohini Alankara.Sringeri Mutt administrator V R Gowrishankar performed the pooja on Monday, the sixth day of Sharannavarathri — the only day of the year when he can perform this ritual.Large Crowd for Madikeri DasaraMeanwhile, as many as 2 lakh visitors are expected on October 6, the last day of the Madikeri Dasara.The government had released a `50 lakh grant for Madikeri Dasara and other cultural programmes
