Diary of a young girl: Scarlette felt stuck in Goa
Teenager's jottings reveal her thoughts but give no clue to her murder.

New Delhi: Scarlette Keeling, the British girl who was raped and murdered in Goa had revealed in her diary that she felt "stuck" in India and had used drugs.

Police found the 15-year-old's diary in the course of their investigation.

Scarlette had allegedly used drugs and alcohol not just in Goa but also at her school in England. She wrote she had fun in Goa but felt “stuck” after two months.

An entry before she left England in November 2007 describes a farewell party where she got drunk.

Another entry mentions a party in Goa. "At the full moon party I met this guy, Julio. I was pretty messed up—like I had taken a pill and drunk a lot of Vodka," the diary says. Julio has been identified as a Goan called Julio Lobo.

Scarlette speaks of her love for her teenage boyfriend in England and mentions an unnamed man with whom she had sex.

In one of her last jottings in the diary Scarlette says she was struggling to make a decision. “I wish something big would happen to make my decision final,” she says.

The Goa police, who have arrested two men for drugging, raping and killing Scarlette, say the diary gives a “sketch picture” of the girl’s life but doesn’t reveal anything about the murder.

"The diary has nothing to do with the murder. It gives a sketch picture of her life," PTI quoted an unidentified police officer as saying.

Scarlette's mother, Fiona MacKeown, on Sunday told a British newspaper she loves India but has abandoned plans to settle down in Goa for safety reasons.

"I don't feel safe here. I am sure there are many people in Goa who want to see me dead," said MacKeown.

The Goa police initially said Scarlette had died of drowning, but MacKeown had demanded a second autopsy, which confirmed rape and murder.
