CHENNAI: Dr Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre (DMDSC) extended its footprint all the way up to the Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR), as they opened their new centre on Monday. The OMR centre of DMDSC will be completely computerised and linked by LAN to the main Gopalapuram centre, with facilities for online consultations via the Electronic Diabetes Medical Record System developed at the centre. Daily lectures on diabetes with audiovisual aids will be another attraction at the centre in addition to periodic continuous medical education sessions and training programmes for doctors and paramedical staff. Located at Karapakkam, the centre was unveiled by Lakshmi Narayanan, Vice Chairman, Cognizant Technology Solutions.Over 2,70,000 diabetic patients have been treated at the centres till date, making it one of the largest and fastest growing diabetes centres in the world. Recent studies have shown that the chance of youth suffering from diabetes has increased in the IT and ITES sector. Hectic and stressful work schedules and a sedentary lifestyle of the employees in the IT and BPO sectors are the main reasons for this increasing prevalence of diabetes and other related disorders. Old Mahabalipuram Road, in Chennai, is dotted with Information technology and BPO’s and is a hub of the IT industry in Chennai. Diabetes has become a major health burden in India. According to the ICMR INDIAB study, currently the number of people with diabetes in India is 62 million and these figures are predicted to increase to 100 million by the year 2025. Unfortunately, more than 50 per cent of people with type two diabetes do not even know they have the disorder. Even children are not spared from this disorder. In such a scenario, it is of utmost importance to have state-of-the art, quality diabetes care to cater to the needs of the population to combat this disorder. The centre will be open six days a week (Monday - Saturday) and appointments can be fixed via phone at 9677188888 / 9677288888 or through email: [email protected].
