Driver, Pizza & Promised Rewards: How The Pune Porsche Crash Is Getting Complex With Details
So far, five people have been arrested in the case, with the sixth being the minor’s father, who is a prominent realtor in the city

Vishal Agrawal, the father of the 17-year-old Pune teen whose speeding Porsche knocked down and killed two people on Sunday, was sent to judicial custody till June 7 by a special court in the city.

The Pune police, investigating the hit-and-run case, had requested an extension of the teen’s father’s custody to allow for further investigation.

Two IT engineers, hailing from Madhya Pradesh, were killed when a speeding Porsche, allegedly driven by a 17-and-a-half-year-old boy in an inebriated state, hit their motorcycle at Pune’s Kalyani Nagar junction on May 19.

So far, five people have been arrested in the case, with the sixth being the minor’s father, who is a prominent realtor in the city.

The police also have submitted an application to the magistrate to add additional sections to the FIR. These include Section 420 of the IPC, along with Sections 65(e) and 18 of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act. These charges are to be added against the accused’s father, bar owners, and managers. Additionally, the police stated they need to investigate further aspects, including details accessed from mobile phones and bank account information of the accused, which need to be cross-verified with Agrawal

Here are the major developments from the Pune Porsche crash case today:

  • The driver, who was claimed to be behind the wheel in the fatal crash, has now alleged that he was coerced by the teen’s father to take the blame and admit to being the driver at the time of the accident.
  • According to the driver, he was promised a “handsome reward” by the boy’s father if he confessed to being the person behind the wheel, sources told News18.
  • The driver further disclosed to the police, he had received a call from the minor’s father, real estate developer Vishal Agrawal, around 2:30 am. The driver also stated that on the day of the incident, he had insisted on driving the car, but the teen’s father had allowed his son to take the wheel.
  • Meanwhile, Vishal Agrawal, the father of the 17-year-old, has claimed that “he has not committed any offence and is being falsely implicated.” He further stated that, in addition to being a successful businessman, he is also a social worker and a regular taxpayer, sources informed.
  • Pune police chief said they are trying to make a “watertight” case against all accused. Addressing the media, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said the minor was in his senses and aware of what he was doing at the time of the accident. “We are trying to make this a watertight case. We have already filed a case against the father of the accused and the bar owners. The technical analysis of the evidence is underway,” Kumar said.
  • The officer mentioned that the police have CCTV footage of the accused drinking liquor in the pub. “The point of saying this is that our case is not alone depending on the blood report we have other evidence also. He (the minor accused) was in his senses. It was not as if all of them were so drunk that they could not understand anything. They had full knowledge that due to their conduct, an incident like section 304 cab happen. There is no fact about the pizza party at the police station,” Kumar said.
  • Additionally, the Pune police chief revealed that there was an attempt to tamper with evidence to suggest that the Porsche involved in the fatal accident was being driven by a family driver rather than the 17-year-old currently in custody.
  • Pune Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale told News18 that Wednesday’s crackdown on illegal pubs and bars across the city by the civic body has nothing to do with the crash case. “We are not targeting anyone. In fact, I had representation from the association of restaurants and we tried to explain what can be done for better functioning between the corporation and restaurants and pubs,” the municipal commissioner said.
  • Bhosale revealed that 89 locations, including pubs, bars, and restaurants, were found to be operating illegally. “Some of them have been demolished,” he added.
