'Ekk Deewana Tha' has surprise ending: Menon
Spotted at a recent music fest the director revealed that 'Ekk Deewana Tha' will have a surprise ending.

New Delhi: When 'Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya' released in 2010, rumours were doing the rounds that Gautham Menon had shot alternate endings for the film. So, one might wonder whether the climax to his soon to be released Hindi remake, 'Ekk Deewana Tha', will end on a happy note, or otherwise.

Spotted at a recent music fest in the city, the director revealed, "Ekk Deewana Tha will have a surprise ending to watch out for."

The 'Vaaranam Aayiram' director is foraying into Bollywood after a long break (He made 'Minnale' in Hindi as Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein). The Hindi version of his first film may have bombed at the box office, but Gautham appears unperturbed about the upcoming release. "This is going to be a break for me," he said, while spending an evening with his family at the Chennai Global Music Festival.

However, the countdown to the premiere has begun.

Gautham said, "I will be going to Mumbai next month for the release of 'Ekk Deewana Tha'." If this Bollywood entry rocks the box office, it will be one of the few times that a trilingual effort by the same director has succeeded. The director said, "The film is looking good and the music is by AR Rahman. There are also two new songs that audiences can look forward to."

Although the focus has been on making a hit film, it certainly hasn't restricted the director from letting his characters evolve. He said candidly, "In VTV, Simbu was more aggressive on screen, but with Prateik it was a more vulnerable character to work with."

And his strong reputation of being particular about the choice of songs in his films is probably reflected in his solid grounding in music from an early age.

"For me, it started in the 1980s with Pink Floyd, Mark Knofler, Dire Straits and thenm, Aersomith," he shared.

So, will he consider letting a Chennai rock band compose the music for one his films? "Yes definitely. My music label (Photon Kathaas Music) recorded an album with Swapna Abraham last year. We are still working on it before its launch."

That means, maybe, Gautham's next after 'Yohan: Adhyayam Ondru' will feature some local talent from the city's talented pool of rock acts.
