ROURKELA: Employees of the defunct refractory plant Orind at Lathikata stalled vehicular traffic on NH 23 on Thursday to express dissatisfaction over the action initiated against the management. Normalcy was restored after Rourkela ADM PC Pathi and SP Himanshu Lal intervened and sought two weeks’ time to address their demands. The agitating employees have been demanding immediate payment of Rs. 24-crore dues and restoration of production in the plant.They asked the DM and the SP to ensure attachment of Orissa-based properties of the absconding Orind chairman Ravin Jhunjhunwala to pay the legitimate dues of the employees.The agitation was second in 10 days. More than 500 protestors had also courted arrest at the same place on August 7.Under mounting pressure, the administration had arrested the former Managing Director of Orind Kashi Prasad Jhunjhunwala on Tuesday for allegedly duping the employees. Earlier, three Orind officers were arrested on the same charges.
