Understanding of GodI am both spiritual and religious. God for me is an all-pervading, supreme force and my anchor. My ishtadevata is Sai (Shirdi Sai Baba and Puttaparthi Sai Baba), I see God through Sai. I surrender to them totally. Talking about idol worship, the Hindu religion teaches us to see God in everything. And for us to realise that, I think we need a lot of maturity and a guru to guide us. Seeing God in everything should be everyone’s ultimate quest. It is easier for us to focus on an idol and pray because it is more tangible and identifiable.Spiritual belief and practicesFrom a very early age, I have been exposed to divinity. As a child, I would visit temples quite often, sing Sai bhajans and engage in vedic chanting. This continues till date. It is an essential part of my life. Also, my mother is very religious and spiritual. And if I had to name someone who has totally surrendered oneself to God, I will have to say it is her. There is so much to learn from her.Faith in miraclesI absolutely believe in miracles. For me, everyday is a miracle. One has to be sensitive to be aware of the little miracles that happen every day like the coincidences and unrelated things coming together and falling into place. I think we have to be alert and gracefully accept these little happenings without questioning them as the will of God.Favourite pilgrimage sitesTwo of my favourite pilgrimage sites, of course, are both Shirdi and Puttaparthi.(Shalini Biswajit is a Chennai-based artist and the owner of Forum Art Gallery, Adyar)
