NEW DELHI: In a startling charge against controversial former Chief Justice of India KG Balakrishnan, a retired Kerala High Court Justice has said that the present NHRC chief Balakrishnan was 'approachable' to fix judgements. In an interview to CNN-IBN and First Post, Justice Shamsuddin made these allegations saying he was asked by a person to 'approach' KG Balakrishnan's son and Son-in-law in connection with a case in the Supreme Court. He said he was approached in 2009 by a Bangalore-based person with the intention of influencing the ex-CJI.Justice Shamsuddin refuses to name the person who asked him to introduce him to Balakrishnan's son or son-in-law. "This was regarding a case that was pending in the Supreme Court."KG Balakrishnan was the Chief Justice of India at that time.Shamsuddin said he did not know till then that KGB was "approachable".Justice Shamsuddin was a judge in the Kerala High Court till 1993 along with Justice Balakrishnan. He says the government is going slow in its probe against KGB. He also said KGB should resign pending a probe into allegations.Justice Shamsuddin said that the government is going slow on action against KG Balakrishnan. He also said that if the government does not act, people will feel that Congress has an interest in protecting KG Balakrishnan.Govt keeps distance form BalakrishnanThe government meanwhile is keeping its distance from the former Chief Justice of India. Law Minister Veerappa Moily told CNN-IBN that charges can be probed only if a case is filed."There is a rule of law, there is a procedure and that procedure needs to be followed. Someone has to file a prosecution, and then procedure will be followed. Let them take the appropriate process that itself will answer the question," said Moily. Why should I step down: BalakrishnanJustice KG balakrishnan - who at present is the chairperson of the NHRC - has reacted to those charges calling them baseless. He says since it was justice Shamsuddin who was approached, he is one who should be probed."What he is saying is that somebody approached him to intorduce my son-in-law or some relative. He must say who approached him. He must say in which case I favoured anybody in any case. Somebody came to him probably because of his dealings. There is no allegation against me. Somebody approached Shamsuddin so why should I resign," said Balakrishnan.
