KOCHI: In the wake of reports of unauthorised agents charging parking fee from tourists in Fort Kochi, the Kochi Corporation has warned people against engaging in such activities.The local body said that there are unconfirmed reports of some agents taking parking fees from tourists coming from different places. The Corporation has called upon the tourists to remain vigilant against such elements and alert the Corporation about it.The Kochi Corporation is presently taking parking fees at a particular stretch near the main bus stand in Fort Kochi. It is not charging parking fees from tourists and others for parking vehicles in any other area, said Town Planning Committee chairman K J Sohan.The Corporation used to charge parking fees in other notified areas. Later, the Corporation decided to do away with the practice, he said.It it is illegal. He said that the Corporation would find out if any such thing is happening the area.When contacted, the sub inspector said that the police station has not received any complaints in this regard.The Revenue officials were not in a position to give a clear picture of the notified areas for paid parking in Fort Kochi. A signage erected by the Corporation mentioning the parking fees is yet to be removed and the agents are taking advantage of it, a trader in the area said.According to the trader the agents were even issuing receipts and fooling the public. According to local councillor Antony Kureethara there were reports about such activities in Fort Kochi. He said he would look into the matter.
