A 27-year-old woman reportedly hanged herself after her 8-year-old daughter demanded her mobile phone for playing games in Faridabad on Wednesday evening, police said on Thursday. The incident took place in the Baselwa Colony of Old Faridabad.
The deceased, identified as Radha, was separated from her husband and had been living with her parents for the last eight years. She had got married to a man named Krishna ten years ago, police noted.
Radha’s father, Moolchand told police that he was not at home when the incident happened. He received a phone call from his wife Sushila, who asked him to return home quickly. Upon reaching home, he found Radha’s room locked from inside.
“I knocked on the door several times, but Radha did not open the door. Finally, we broke the door and found Radha hanging from a hook in the ceiling. She was dead by the time she was taken off the hook,” Moolchand said in his statement, according to police.
Sushila told police that Radha was playing some game on her mobile phone when her daughter Shivani started demanding that she let her play. Radha then slammed her phone in anger and giving her daughter a beating, left the room.
She then went inside her room, closed the door, and hanged herself, police said.
According to investigating Officer ASI Narain Dutt, Radha’s body has been taken into custody and a probe into the case is underway.
