THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: To the relief of thousands of professionals working with various companies housed inside Technopark, the capital city’s own IT hub, the State Government has decided to establish a new Fire and Rescue Services station inside the park campus. The new station will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Thursday at 4.30 pm. Minister for Information and Technology P K Kunhalikutty will preside over the function.The Fire and Rescue station at Technopark will have as many as 20 personnel, including 12 firemen, three drivers, a mechanic, station officer, additional station officer, lower division clerk and a living servant. The station is also equipped with state-of-the-art fire-fighting and rescue equipment, including two water tenders, inflatable power lights, chain saws and breathing apparatus.According to sources, the Fire and Rescue personnel with the station, despite attending to the emergency calls inside the Technopark campus, will also provide their services to places that come in a 10-km radius around the park.Kazhakkoottam MLA M A Vahid, Thiruvananthapuram City Corporation Mayor K Chandrika and MP Shashi Tharoor will also attend the inauguration. By setting up a Fire and Rescue station inside the Technopark campus, the authorities have also addressed one of the numerous complaints raised by the professionals at the park on the lack of proper security measures employed there.Most recently, the authorities had to bring Fire and Rescue personnel from Chackai station, located 15 km away from the park, when a false bomb scare was raised inside the park.
