Getting a haircut? Try these hot styles
Go crazy with haircuts this summer celeb hairstylist Sapna Bhavnani's way.

Remember Bipasha Basu's short and sweet, quite uncomplicated and at the same time uber-chic haircut?

The woman behind Bipasha's cutting edge is celeb hairstylist and columnist Sapna Bhavnani. Her salon, Mad O' Wot, is a favourite celeb haunt, thanks to her crafty scissor snips.

We ask Sapna about some hottest hair trends. Sport one of these and you'll effortlessly win a place in the hot-n-happening groups you'd die to belong to!

The reason why Bipasha's hairdo got so many headlines was the precision of each layer in her bob. Says Sapna, "Precision-cut bobs are huge, especially when coupled with a fringe on your forehead."

But before you go all gung-ho for the chop, make sure it's shape will compliment the shape of your face. "Precision bobs should be carefully crafted to accentuate your unique facial structure -- for example, if you have a long swan-like neck, your bob should highlight it than hide it," Sapna elaborates.

Wondering if a precision cut will suit your hair texture? "These bobs work best with straight or slightly wavy hair. The length varies from ear level to shoulder-skimming level -- choose your length before the stylist uses her scissors on them," warns Sapna.

Possessing noodle-like wild curls can be a boon or a bane - wild curls a la Sarah Jessica Parker can look elegant and exotic, but an unmanageable curly volume makes it difficult to do anything else with the hair.

Sapna has a solution -- "If your hair is too curly, a bob can take on the look of a triangle, widening at the bottom in an unflattering way."

Instead, all ye curlyheads, consider this out-of-bed look. It looks smart with casuals and totally boho with a skirt-and-beads avataar. Another good part -- you won't have to spend hours with your styler taming those wild strands.

"Of course, don't go too literal when I say bed-head. Only carefully groomed hair can pull this off," quips Sapna.

Check out the latest on the block for guys -- Fo-hawk. It's not a spelling mistake -- its a faux mohawk. Remember Aamir Khan in the Bollywood flick Taare Zameen Par?

Sapna's take on fohawk -- "It just continues to dominate urban hairstyling. It's crazy, it's messy, it requires dangerous amounts of styling product, but it's all worth it -- the look it gives you is unmatched."

Some of the most famous fohawks are sported by footballer David Beckham and actor Aamir Khan -- of course, not to forget the 7-year-old child actor Darsheel Safari from Taare Zameen Par.

This is what Sapna calls "the glamour of the 1950s pompadour fused with punk, bad-ass, big 1980s hair." An absolutely hot property to possess this summer.

"This one looks easy, but it isn't. This funky look is created by keeping a strip of hair across the top of the head longer and higher than the hair on the remainder of the head," says Sapna.

Pay attention guys - if you want to get your punk chic look right, this is the right way to go. Remember Sapna's advice though - a few coloured strands will be the icing on the cake, but don't OD on colour, or your head will end up looking like an exotic African bird.

The tousled-up tresses of Julia Roberts made the awesome-quotient of Pretty Woman shoot up. This season, watch the movie again and gear up to flaunt that soft wavy mane just like Julia Roberts.

"Soft feminine hairstyles will make it through to 2008 too," says Sapna, "soft waves and tousled-up tresses are in right now. This is instant style that matches with softer makeup, pastel colours and delicate clothing."

This hairstyle is a part of the 1930s and 40s influence on the fashion scene of today. Wear it to work or college, this one will take you places. Since it is low-maintainance, you wont have to spend too much time or money.

What? Masculine styles are in? Didn't we just say soft and feminine is the way to go?

"It is all about extreme -- just like super-feminine look, the ultra-masculine hairstyles for women have also hit the runways as a forerunner in 2008," Sapna explains, "It depends on your personality, really. Just remember to go extreme."

For the masculine look, all you have to do is chop off the locks on the crown and keep the minimal strands reaching up to shoulders.

If masculine is your style, you are lucky -- all styles under this category come totally hassle-free. Plus, bring out your faded jeans from college and all the funky accessories, since they go well with this look. You can go all out with colours -- electric blues, deep purples and shocking pinks will add to the funk of this look.
