KOCHI: IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Ltd has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government to set up a state-of-the-art training and development campus, TCS Global Learning Centre, at Technocity, a wing of the Technopark coming up at Pallipuram on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram. The MoU was signed by Industries Principal Secretary T Balakrishnan and TCS CEO N Chandrashekar at the golden jubilee celebration of the Kerala State Industries Development Cooperation here on Saturday. According to the MoU, the construction of TCS Global Training Academy in Thiruvananthapuram will begin this year with an investment of `1,000 crore. TCS Global Training Centre project is the first in the Technocity. This will be the largest training centre of TCS in India with training and accommodation facilities for about 10,000 to 15,000 professionals. The TCS will also build modern software development campuses with SEZ status in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi for providing job opportunities to 8,000 and 5,000, respectively.IT sources said the fortunes of the IT industry in the state was witnessing a turnaround. “The Training Academy intended to be set up in Kerala will be the largest one in the country. Currently, the academy of Infosys in Mysore which can accommodate around 10,000 IT professionals is the largest in the country. “But with the coming of the TCS Global Training Academy, Kerala will have the largest IT training academy in the country,” Thiruvanathapuram Technopark CEO Merwin Sebastine said. “This will bring in a major boom in the IT sector of the state as more IT firms will start ventures here. International IT giants like Microsoft and IBM will be attracted to such mega projects coming up in the state. Even major IT companies currently functioning in the state will expand their units here. The academy will be set up in 82 acres of land allotted by the governent to the TCS,” said Sebastine.
