KOCHI: Youth soccer power was in display when Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur, took on St Xavier’s College, Thumba, Thiruvananthapuram, on Tuesday, the second day of ‘Goal 2012’, organised by The New Indian Express. Students from various colleges across the city and the public who gathered at the Maharaja’s Stadium Ground to watch the teams in action had thrilling moments to relish. With a tinge of defiance and determination after days of practice, the teams went for the kill right from the word ‘go’.Having a contingent of players who have proven their skills at several inter-collegiate games, a few players from both the teams have been identified by their coaches as the future promise of football in Kerala. The crowd was treated to sparkling fast paced football throughout. Volleys of shots soon started flying across the stadium as defenders and strikers and forwards put in their best foot forward.Crowds yelled and cheered when Faisal Rahman of Kerala Varma slammed the first goal into the goal post at the first half of the match. As moments ticked by, he shot another into the net and repeated the same feat shortly. The hat trick helped Kerala Varma clinch the victory.The second match of the day saw MES College, Mambad, defeating SN College, Kannur.
