New Delhi: Hundreds of people gathered at a church service in the town of Reading on Saturday to pray for the safe return of Goa-origin Jonathan Marques who has been missing since January 6.
A public campaign has been launched in London to locate the 15-year-old who moved to Britain three years ago with his parents. He, however, was reported to be unhappy with the move and wanted to return to Goa.
After the mass at the St James church on Saturday, people gathered at Jonathan's home with his parents, two sisters and brother to retrace the last known steps of his journey to the Blessed Hugh Faringdon School.
Holding banners and posters and wearing specially made T-shirts, the group made their way to Rose Kiln Lane, which is the last place the teenager was seen.
A search of waterways and streams nearby in sub-zero conditions failed to provide any clues. The police are worried that he may have fallen through the ice as he tried to take a shortcut to school across patches of thinly frozen water.
Detective Chief Inspector Stan Gilmour said so far nothing had been found. He said "We concentrated our search specifically on Fobney Lock because we spotted a hole in the surface of the ice during our initial search last week.
"Our specialist frogmen were there most of the morning but nothing was found. It is not possible to search the whole river, but we will be looking at other areas of water nearby." The police were continuing door-to-door inquiries in the neighbourhood.
Meanwhile, more than 1,200 people have signed up to a Facebook group set up last week to help find the missing teenager.
