Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb on Tuesday said that all government schools would get high-speed broadband Internet connectivity within a month.
He said this after the signing of the MoU between the state government and the BSNL in this regard.
With this deal, about 4,000 government schools will get access to high-speed broadband internet connectivity. Rabb said that the facility would be provided to 2,495 high schools, 1,236 higher secondary schools, 377 VHS Schools, 233 UP schools, offices of Deputy Directors, District Education Officers and Assistant Education Officers, District Institute of Educational Technology offices and 35 block resource centres.
The Minister said that this would enable unlimited data sharing without the need to avail normal internet bandwidth.
A 100 Mbps leased line connection supported by a MLPS (Multi Protocol Label Switching) with 20 Mbps bandwidth has been provided for the VPN connectivity.
Rabb said that the ‘Siksha Ka Haq Abhiyan’ (Right to Education campaign) will be flagged off on Wednesday at the Government UP School at Ambalathara here.
The campaign is aimed at raising awareness at the grassroots level about the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009.
Though the Right to Education Act has been in force, there is little awareness of the law and its provisions, Rabb said.
As part of the Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations, a campaign with the slogan ‘God’s Own Country, a Clean Land,’ will be launched, he said. About 50 lakh students and others are expected to take part in the one-week-long campaign, Rabb said.
