Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Anandi Patel adopted Lilapur village of Daskroi taluka in the district with a population of around 1,200 people. Taking her cue from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna', Patel has asked all the MLAs of Gujarat to adopt a village of their constituency and turn it into an ideal village (adarsh gram) to realise Modi's dream, an official press release said.
After adopting Lilapur, about 20 km away from the city, Patel went to the village which falls under her constituency of Ghatlodia, the release said. Lilapur is well connected to Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and the nearby town of Kalol through SP Ring Road but according to villagers despite the connectivity it still lacks several basic amenities.
"Road connectivity is good, but very few public transport buses are available. Internal roads of the village are not in good shape. We hope that our chief minister will do something about these issues," Lilapur's sarpanch Usha Thakor's husband Viram Thakor said.
Lilapur has only a primary school, which forces students to travel atleast 5 km to study further to the nearby Ognaj village, Thakor said. "The village panchayat also faces a severe financial crunch. As a result, we cannot buy vehicles to lift garbage regularly from the viillage. We hope that our CM will address this issue," Thakor said.
