New Delhi: There is no breakthrough in the caste deadlock in Rajasthan. The Gurjar leaders demand Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje should be present during the talks.
The Gurjars will hold another round of talks with the Rajasthan Government on Saturday. But five people died in clashes between the Gurjars and the Meenas on Thursday and an early resolution seems difficult.
Another attack took place on Friday on Railway property by Gurjar protestors. This time at Jaipur's Sanganer Railway station and this even as talks between the Government and Gurjar leaders for resolution of the reservation row failed again late on Friday.
The two sides will have another round of dialogue on Saturday, but with the issue escalating into a full-blown caste conflict, the protestors now want Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje herself to join the talks.
Gurjar leader Roop Singh said, “We will resume talks only with Chief Minister now. Rest we leave everything in God's hands.”
“Chief Minister will be there for important decisions, “Rajasthan Health Minister Digambar Singh said.
Clearly, Friday's Gurjar-Meena clash of Lalsot is weighing heavily as the two sides head into talks on Saturday.
But drowned in the caste battle cries are the voices of those caught up in the violence.
Mehandipur Balaji from Gurjat community says, “Our children are waiting for us at home. We are so troubled nobody is helping us.”
Roads and railway routes continue to remain disrupted across large parts of the border state.
As the reservation fire rages on, it's unclear how and when the vexed issue of shifting Gurjars from the OBC to the ST category would be settled.
