Headcount shows fall in number of students

KOCHI: When the headcount of students in Ernakulam district was completed, the number of students registered a decline of 11,062 than last year's. It was also found that there was a decline of 11,062 students from last year's.While the number of students in unaided schools increased by 3,054, there was a decrease in the number of students in government and aided schools which stood at 2,664 and 11,452 respectively.As per the initial information, the total number of students in the district is 3,00,075. The total number of students in the aided sector is 33,341 while that in the government and aided sectors is 49,519 and 2,17,215 respectively.The verification of the strength of students was held on Tuesday. The date of the headcount had been kept secret to avoid manipulation of student strength by school managements. This year scientific examinations to verify the identity of students, including fingerprint and retina scanning, will be held after July 15.
