Heavy rains lashed coastal
Andhra Pradesh today resulting in inundation of low-lying
residential areas and badly affected standing crops. Machilipatnam in Krishna district received 17 cm of
rainfall, followed by Rajahmundry in East Godavari district-16
cms, Ongole in Prakasam district-14 and Eluru in West
Godavari, Avanigadda in Krishna and Yerragondapalem and Darsi
in Prakasam district received 13 cms each.A number of other places in East and West Godavari,
Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam districts also received heavy
rainfall, Meteorological Department sources said.The heavy rains inundated low-lying areas in the
districts. The rain water entered the district government
hospital at Eluru, which affected medical services. Rains also damaged standing paddy crop in the coastal
districts, which was ready for harvesting.The southwest monsoon has been vigorous over coastal
Andhra Pradesh and active over Telangana regions. The
well-marked low pressure area lies over West Central Bay of
Bengal and adjoining areas of Coastal Andhra Pradesh today at
0830hrs IST, the weatherman said.Until the morning of October 3, moderate to rather
heavy rain or thundershowers would occur at many places over
Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Rayalaseema.Meanwhile, according to the Cyclone Warning Center in
Visakhapatnam, heavy rains might occur at one or two places in
coastal Andhra Pradesh in the next 24 hours, with rain or
thunder showers in the remaining parts of the state. Winds from north easterly direction with speeds
reaching 45 to 50 KMPH may blow on and off coastal Andhra, it
said.
