With her latest film Kuchh Luv Jaisaa all set to release this Friday, you'd imagine actress Shefali Shah to be one busy person. And busy she is, flitting back and forth between the many phone calls she has been receiving and giving instructions to her house-help about several errends to run. But not for a moment, all the running around seems to affect her at all; her smile is radiant and her manner effortlessly charming.
Shefali can't stop gushing about her new-found glamorous avatar, that she credits to a rigorous exercise schedule and countless days of thoughtful dieting. A mother of two children, wife of filmmaker Vipul Shah and now with a new film opposite Rahul Bose in her kitty, the actress is the newest entrant to the Bollywood list of yummy mummies. She points out, "In Bollywood, actresses always have to look a certain way. I, on the other hand, have always played true to the character I do in my films. In Kucch Luv Jaisaa, I play this glamorous, beautiful, pretty woman with amazing hair." And with a laugh, Shefali claims, "I am the least bit like that in real life. I don't follow trends and I hate dressing up."
In Kucch Luv Jaisaa, Shefali plays a bored housewife who decides to spend a day with a complete stranger. Ask her if the on-screen transformation was all hard work, and the actress admits, "I have a team with me that works on me very hard. Off-screen, you will always see me in a white shirt and a pair of jeans. Getting into the skin of the character I play in the film was obviously challenging. I needed to look a certain way."
The actress also adds that there was one particular thing in the film she had to do, that she stays away from doing in real life, and that is driving a car. She laughs as she explains, "I drive in almost 60 percent of the scenes in Kucch Luv Jaisaa, and I don't really drive in real life. I have a driver's licence but don't like driving at all."
While B-town is abuzz with her remarkable physical transformation, Shefali looks totally unfazed with all the news she has been making. In fact, currently what's taking most of her time is decorating the family's new house in Lokhandwala, Mumbai. The excitement in her voice is palpable as she tells us, "I am so involved right now in the making of our new home. I have a distinct idea about what I want. From the door knobs to the other minute details, I am very particular about how our house looks finally." With a new film, a new look and a new house, Shefali Shah looks all set to put her best foot forward.
