New Delhi: Britain's Prince Harry has returned from active duty in Afghanistan, after details of his presence leaked out in the press. The young prince is being called a hero for his service. But Harry says he's just one among thousands in Afghanistan.
"I wouldn't say I'm a hero at all. I'm no more a hero than anyone else. If you think about it there's thousands and thousands of troops out there,” Prince Harry.
"And as I keep saying over and over again, it's very nice for all the press to come here and do this but hopefully in the long run it's going to bring more attention towards what the guys are doing out in Afghanistan and the amazing job everyone is doing,” he added.
Speaking from Raf Brize Norton, United Kingdon, Prince Harry was all praises for the soldiers who put their lives on the line to serve the country.
"There were two injured guys who came back on the plane with us who were essentially comatose throughout the whole way. One had lost two limbs —a left arm and a right leg—and another guy who was basically saved by his mate's body being in the way but took shrapnel to the neck, both out cold throughout the whole of the flight,” Harry said.
"Those are the heroes, those were guys who had been blown up by a mine that they had no idea about, serving their country, doing a normal patrol, doing what they know is best.”
Harry was a forward air controller (FAC) in Helmand province, and had taken part in operations against the Taliban.
The Army High Command took the decision to send him home after a foreign magazine and a website leaked details about his whereabouts in the war-stricken country. Until then his location had remained a secret.
