Bridgetown: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved the 12 venues for 2007 Cricket World Cup.
"All the venues are on stream and we are doing fine. We are where we believe we should be at this time," ICC Venue Development Director, Don Lockerbie said.
The tournament will start on March 13 and the matches will be played at the Kensington Oval, Barbados; Sabina Park, Jamaica; Beausejour, St. Lucia; Warner Park, St. Kitts; Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua; Queen’s Park, Grenada; Queen’s Park Oval, Trinidad; and Providence Stadium, Guyana.
Lockerbie said that till now, all the nine countries that had hosted the tournaments had prepared well and it was expected that the Caribbean would also host it in a befitting manner.
He however, expressed apprehension whether the new Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad, which will stage pre-tournament matches from March 2 to 9 would be ready in time to host the matches.
"We believe it started too late and they are pitching at 15,000 seats. All we really require for pre-tournament matches is around 5,000 seats. We are looking good and we’ll be ready to host the cricket world in style," Lockerbie said.
The pre-tournament matches will be at new Brian Lara Stadium, 3Ws Oval in Barbados, new Trelawny Stadium in Jamaica, and Arnos Vale in St. Vincent. The opening ceremony will be at Trelawny on March 11.
