KOCHI: Members of the Trade Union Coordination Committee kept off from work for a brief period at the International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT), Vallarpadam, on Monday seeking better facilities for the cleaners of the container vehicles, even as the ICTT promoter DP World said that such things would affect the facilities' credibility. The workers marched to the office in the morning in support of their demands and later called it off.
Elvis D'Cruz, general manager (Commercial) of DP World, said the allegations raised by the cleaners were unsubstantiated. "Such unwarranted strikes will only affect the credibility of the state."

For safety reasons the cleaners are kept away from the operational area and the DP World has provided them with facilities like restroom, drinking water with cooler and etoilet when the containers are being loaded/unloaded. "While the terminal is just starting to prove its efficiency among the trade, such strikes will only affect the prgress of Kerala," he said.
