BANGALORE: The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore (IIIT-B) will conduct its eleventh annual convocation on July 10.Overall, 166 post-graduates and research scholars from MTech, MS and PhD course are passing out from the institute this year.On the Director’s Merit List are 29 MTech graduates from the 2010 batch, who have secured a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.75 or above, as well as five from the 2009 batch. In 2010, 107 M.Tech students and six MS Research scholars graduated from the institute.Over the past 11 years, IIIT-B has churned out 1,246 students, of which a few have gone for doctoral studies at MIT, UC Berkeley, Indiana University, University of Washington and Syracuse University in USA, Paderborn and University of Kaiserslautern in Germany, Trento in Italy, and IIIT-B and BITS Pilani in India. The rest have taken up positions in more than 180 corporations, including IT product majors, R&D units, IT services, engineering, networking, semiconductor, EDA, Internet, FMCG, banking and public sector majors, among others.The internship selection for the 2009-11 batch of students was held on the IIIT-B campus over two weeks last November. In all, 24 companies participated in the selection process, ranging from research labs of MNCs, R&D companies, finance/banking firms, and start-ups.This year, about 20 students are doing their thesis with the professors under funded projects or collaboration with companies. The process is almost complete, with all but one student either being placed for internship or opting to do thesis, said the placement cell.
