Every year, thousands of people lose their lives during the monsoon season due to snake bites. Recently, a cobra rescue operation took place in the middle of the night at the house of Sridhara Patagara, a piggery farmer who lives in the Kumta taluk in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka.
According to reports, at around midnight, a cobra was seen crawling on the roof of the house. The snake that entered the house is said to have come from the Aghanashini River and has shocked the family.
Later, the family called a snake catcher who visited Sridhara Patagara’s house without delay and conducted an operation from 12:30 to 1:30. He caught the snake hiding in the tile crevice and released it into the forest. During this rescue operation, the cobra tried to bite the snake catcher twice. According to reports, the cobra was 5 feet long.
After the operation, snake catcher Pawan shared some suggestions about the precautionary measures that people should take in the monsoon season to be safe from reptiles, which include:
1. Snakes floating in neighbouring areas first seek a warm place. Thus, snakes make their homes on the roofs and floors of sunken houses.
2. When they try to hunt at night, when they start running, there are chances that they will fall.
3. Water-soaked snakes look for warm or soft places. Thus, if materials are placed on the slab, heat is placed between the materials in the gap of the tile.
4. Slab houses are cool, and there is less chance of snake movement in slab houses. So they often look for a tiled house.
Safety Measures:
1. If you have gone to a care centre when you first come home, you should clean up the things left on the floor as soon as you return home. Then it will be known whether there are snakes or not.
2. Cleaning should not be done in a hurry in cramped and warm places.
3. You can avoid the possibility of a snake falling on you by sleeping with a mosquito net at night.
Precautionary measures should be taken by people in flood-prone areas during the rainy season for reptiles.
