In the Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu, graduate volunteers have come together to run a school for free. Dr BR Ambedkar Free School has helped many children from the village to seek education. The youth are participating in the social issues of the village by coming together and running a free school for the last three years. These volunteers have shouldered the responsibility of teaching the students here. This has grabbed the limelight and the volunteers are getting appreciation for their efforts. Villupuram’s Dr BR Ambedkar Free School was established in 2021 under the leadership of Madanvalavan and six volunteers Premkumar, Lilavati, Jagatheeswari, Thirunavukarasu, Nandini and Induchudar. Together, they have been successfully running the educational institute for the last three years. More than 50 students from the village have enrolled here and are reaping the benefits of the free school. These students are taught by educated and graduate degree holder volunteers.

The free school offers education to students from Class 6 to 12. Apart from their regular subjects, they are taught general knowledge and engaged in various activities. Beyond the curriculum, they are also taught other things like constitutional laws, traditional games, and awareness about tourist places among others. The school runs from 6:00 am to 7 am and in the evening from 5 pm to 9 pm. This free school is held in a library in the Pagandai village of Villupuram.

While establishing the free school, Madanvalavan and his group of volunteers faced many problems and obstacles which they overcame and are now running the school smoothly with the cooperation of the villagers. The reason why they set up this school was to make sure everybody gets education and general knowledge free of charge. The students have also mentioned that whatever they learn from the volunteers helps them understand and finish their homework easily.

The volunteers also teach the students sports like Kabaddi as a part of their physical education and development.
