As India celebrates 17th Kargil Vijay Diwas on Tuesday, a week-long tribute is being held at Kargil's Dras and the national capital to honor the brave martyrs of the 1999 war.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay his respects at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate.
Remembering sacrifices of the soldiers during the war against Pakistan, Modi tweeted, "On Kargil Vijay Diwas I bow to every valiant soldier who fought for India till the very last breath. Their heroic sacrifices inspire us. India will never forget the fearlessness with which our courageous soldiers gave a befitting and unforgettable reply to the intruders. We recall with pride, the firmness demonstrated by India's political leadership in 1999, which ensured a decisive victory in Kargil."

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar paid his tribute at the Amar Jawan Jyoti in the morning. Chief of Army, Navy and Air Force were also present.
The Army is celebrating the 17th Kargil Vijay Diwas to commemorate the victory in the war against Pakistan. The week-long celebrations will end on Tuesday.
