New Delhi: India has handed over a letter written by Mumbai terror suspect Mohammed Ajmal Kasab to the acting High Commissioner of Pakistan.
In the letter written to the Pakistan high commission, Kasab says he and the other terrorists killed in the November 26 terror attacks are Pakistanis.
Kasab has also sought a meeting with the Pak high commissioner.
”In his letter addressed to the Pakistan High Commission, Kasab has stated that he and the other terrorists killed in the attack were from Pakistan and has sought a meeting with (representative of) the Pakistan High Commission,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vishnu Prakash told reporters.
The ministry called Pakistan's acting high commissioner Afrasiab and handed over the letter.
Sources in the Pakistan high commission say that the letter is a photocopy and is unsigned, raising questions over the authenticity.
The letter is likely to be forwarded to the Interior Ministry to determine if Kasab is indeed a Pakistani as India claims
With Pakistan in denial about any links with the Mumbai attacks, Kasab's letter is “decisive evidence” that backs India's contention about the complicity of elements in the Nov 26 Mumbai savagery, an official source said.
Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Pakistan's high commissioner to India Shahid Malik have denied that Kasab is a Pakistani national.
While Kasab was captured, his nine fellow gun-men were killed by commandos.
