Inopportune time to tax public: Jayalalithaa

CHENNAI: Chief Ministe­r J Jayalalithaa denounced the Railway Budget for the year 2012-13 as a great disappointment to the common people. She said it lacked direction and failed to provide solutions to the problems daunting the leviathan that is Indian Railways. Criticising the across-the-board hike in, the CM charged that the TN government’s requests with regard to the introduction of new lines and gauge conversion have been ignored. In a three-page statement here, the CM said, “It is a most inopportune time to tax the common people when they are already suffering from all-round price rise.”
