New Delhi: More than 24 hours after the car blast outside the Israel embassy in New Delhi which injured four people, investigators have said that it was a sophisticated attack carried out by a trained person.
Speaking about the attack, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday said that it was clearly a terror attack and the Israel diplomat's wife was the target.
"It is quite clear that a very well trained person committed the attack and there is reason to believe that the target was the diplomat's wife," said the Home Minister.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police collected CCTV footage of last seven days from areas near Aurangzeb Road, and also sought information from Georgia where another Israel embassy car was attacked on Monday.
Addressing a press conference in the national capital, Delhi Police Commissioner B K Gupta said that the bomb used in the attack could not be bigger than a palm top, adding that the attacker was well trained.
"The assailant was well trained. He didn’t even get injured and fled from the spot," said Gupta.
Israel, meanwhile, is slated to send a team comprising forensic and security experts to India to help investigators.
However, Israel has continued to blame Iran for the attack, putting India in a fix as it shared good diplomatic relations with both the countries.
Speaking exclusively to IBN18 Senior Editor Suhasini Haidar, Union External Affairs Minister SM Krishna said that it was not an intelligence failure.
When asked about the blame on Iran, Krishna said that it was too soon to assign any blame, adding that such attack could happen anywhere, therefore, it was not a failure.
The Indian authorities further confirmed that the blast was carried out by bike borne attackers. The Delhi Police also asked all the officials to be on a lookout for an abandoned red motorcycle, possibly stolen.
Meanwhile, Manjeet Singh, one of those injured in the blast, said he was behind the Innova when the incident occurred, but said that he did not see any motorist or device.
