Jaipur: The prime accused in the Jaipur hit and run case Vijit Singh can breathe easy at least till January 7.
A local court has set aside the hearing on the cancellation of his bail till then.
Vijit Singh is the grandson of Rajmata Gayatri Devi.
He had allegedly run over a group of girls on December 16 killing one of them.
Vijit Singh was initially booked for only negligent driving, and was released on bail.
However, the police later booked him under the non-bailable charge of culpable homicide.
Police now want the earlier bail cancelled
Police today said that Singh's medical report "substantiates" the claim made by the witnesses on his state at the time of the mishap.
The "medical report will supplement the testimony given
by the main witnesses.
They had testified that Vijit was so drunk that he could not even walk properly.
"Now this report substantiates their testimony that he was very drunk and certainly in no shape to drive," alleged Mohan Singh, Superintendent of Police, Jaipur.
He was arrested and was after being released on bail by the traffic police.
A case under sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life) and other provisions of the IPC has been registered against him.
