An 18-year-old man drowned after he jumped into a Jharkhand quarry lake from a height of about 100 feet to make a reel for Instagram. A video of the incident went viral on social media.
Reports stated that the young man jumped into the water in Sahibganj district on Monday, while his friends recorded his dare. The friends, who were bathing in the lake, reportedly tried to save victim Tausif but were unsuccessful.
The friends alerted local residents and police, and a search operation was launched. The youth’s body was recovered later, a report in India Today stated.
The publication further said that as soon as Tausif started swimming after falling into the water, he began to drown. Deputy Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar Kushwaha was quoted as saying that after jumping into water several feet deep, the young man could not control himself and drowned.
