New Delhi: Kannada film director A V Seshagiri Rao died in Chennai on Saturday, family sources said.
Rao, who had given many hit films along with Kannada film icon Rajkumar, was 80 years old and is survived by two daughters.
Sources said Rao had a fall in his house in Chennai and was rushed to the Apollo hospital where he died of brain haemorrhage.
"He was very active till the end and had even booked tickets to watch Rajnikanth's just released film 'Sivaji' this evening. But destiny willed otherwise," news agency PTI quoted a source as saying.
Rao, who started his film career at a young age, had directed about 50 films including in Telugu and Tamil.
He made his directorial debut in Telugu film Pelli Pilipu starring N T Rama Rao and Devika in 1962.
The 80-year-old director gave blockbusters like Rajkumar-starrer Sampath Ge Sawal, Bahadur Gandu and Bettadha Huli to the Kannada film industry.
His last film was Bahadura Hennu in which actress Rupa Ganguly had played the lead role.
The funeral will take place in Chennai on Saturday.
