Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Thursday claimed that Tanzanian woman, who was assaulted by a mob in Bengaluru, was not stripped or paraded naked. In a faux pas during his press conference, the minister named the Tanzanian woman.

When a journalist asked him if he was right in naming her, the Home Minister defended his action saying that it is a fact and he can't hide the facts.

He said, "It is her name. How can I hide the facts? All these things are in her complaint."

Asserting that the incident was not racist, the state Home Minister said that the mob fury was just in response to the accident that led to the violence.

Defending the Bengaluru police, Parameshwara claimed that the police personnel were quick in action.

This comes even as the Union Home Ministry sought a report from the state government on the incident.

"There are over 12,000 foreign students here. We will ensure that they are safe," he added.

Earlier, the Tanzanian envoy to India has demanded strict action against those involved in the attack on 21-year-old student. Speaking to CNN-IBN, the Tanzanian envoy said that the victim had not said anything about leaving India yet.

The official also said that it would be wrong to label India a racist nation due to the incident, adding that only some people in the country have that attitude.

Meanwhile, another arrest has been made in the case, bringing the total number of arrest to five. According to sources, some other people are being questioned in the case.

The 21-year-old woman from Tanzania studying in Bengaluru was allegedly assaulted, stripped and paraded naked by an angry mob in the outskirts of the city on Sunday night.
